7digital What we said: Britain’s most influential electro-rock outfit are back, and on their 13th long-player they’re sounding as mean and moody as ever. Interestingly, album-opener ‘Welcome To My World’ finds the trio channelling bands they themselves helped inspire: hissing, Nine Inch Nails-esque percussion and groaning, industrial synths establish a sense of foreboding that subsequently hangs over the rest of the record. For our money, Delta Machine’s appeal is best distilled in ‘Soothe My Soul’, its infectious melody drawn from dirty guitars, churning synths and Dave Gahan’s brawny baritone. This isn’t the kind of electronic music you’d hear at nightclubs – and if it were, the dress code there would probably stipulate a lot of black leather – but it’s the perfect soundtrack for a post-party comedown.
