7digital What we said: While Miley Cyrus and Ariana Grande made the process of transitioning from child soap star to platinum-selling solo artist seem easy, Joe Jonas struggled to shake off his squeaky clean reputation with 2011 debut Fastlife. Undeterred, the middle Jonas Brother simply returned to the drawing board and re-emerged in September 2015 as frontman of Californian quartet DNCE. Unless you’ve been living on another planet, you’ll have doubtless already have heard lead single ‘Cake By The Ocean’, and that global smash sets the tone pretty nicely for the rest of their debut. Think party-orientated funk-pop, with choruses catchy enough to appeal to the tween market, but enough expletives to get them barred from the Disney Channel.
