7digital What we said: With Mumford and Sons and Laura Marling accumulating commercial success and BRIT awards, it’s easy to forget that Fleet Foxes emerged in a far less hospitable musical climate. With folk then largely dismissed as the preserve of the woolly-jumper brigade, the Seattle outfit battled through the stigma and re-ignited the mainstream’s interest in the genre with their superb debut. We’re delighted to report then that the stunning Helplessness Blues picks up where Fleet Foxes left off, filled as it is with mellifluous harmonies and expansive, pastoral hymns. Timelessly beautiful, it’s a dead cert for the Best of the Year lists.
