Even better: “Keane do drone-ambient.” Better still, “Keane have swapped pianos for panpipes, and are unleashing a concept album charting the life and times of a Peruvian vicuña, up in the alpine regions of the Andes.” Disappointingly for hacks, the truth is nowhere near that jaw-dropping. Fortunately for ears, Strangeland finds Tim Rice-Oxley et al doing precisely the same thing they’ve always done: namely, writing whopping, hook-laden, piano-driven tunes. This haul ought to soundtrack the Olympics’ motivational TV montages nicely.
