7digital What we said: Although one of the singles from his new album is called ‘Marmalade’, Macklemore's poppy brand of rap has always marked him out as more of a Marmite kind of guy: you either love him or you hate him. Whatever side of that sentiment you fall on, Gemini is the Seattle rapper’s first album since parting ways with producer Ryan Lewis — the inimitable collaborative duo that brought the world ‘Thrift Shop’. The new album finds typically schmaltzy, twinkling piano-laced production, but we sometimes find him playing around with melodic rap auto-tune à la Lil Yachty (indeed, Lil Boat features, as does Migos’ Offset and Kesha). Though ultimately retaining his own style, with Gemini Macklemore’s clearly been paying attention to the zeitgeist.
