7digital What we said: Taylor Swift wants us to know she’s no longer playing nice: images of snakes filled her social media ahead of album six, and lead single ‘Look What You Made Me Do’ was all camp, Right Said Fred-inspired theatrics declaring the old Taylor dead. But no need to mourn, as this is largely still a release catered to old Taylor’s fans. Amid the standard love songs, Reputation finds Taylor demanding karmic retribution for all those who have wronged her (it’s a long list), as she repeatedly laments her castle crumbling and denounces “the liars” out there. There’s plenty here to draw in listeners who loved the glossy pop of 1989 – many of the same producers worked on Reputation, and there’s an airy sheen throughout. However, for those who didn’t go full Taylor-convert, her unapologetic political silence and renewed pleas of victimhood will probably rub a lot of people the wrong way.
