7digital What we said: Despite the 2010 campaign seeking to raise $10 million to make Weezer break-up (largely donated to by long-term fans who weren't keen on recent records), the Los Angeles group are back with album 11. For many, Weezer’s brand of grungey rock via propulsive pop punk peaked with 1996’s Pinkerton (which followed their storming eponymous debut). With each release they’ve veered increasingly into the realm of pop, and Pacific Daydream is poppier than ever: sugary tunes like 'Happy Hour' have catchy choruses that might appeal to fans who enjoyed Maladroit onwards, while 'Feels Like Summer' sounds like a Maroon 5-meets-The Script offcut. In short, while it has tunes for their latest listeners, this album might disappoint old school fans.
